Add On to Minutes 3/15

Add On to Minutes 3/15

- punch and die set used for thermoforming will be 2.229" rather than 2.29"
- ordered shims, (linked here) ID 1.5”, OD 2.25”

Meeting Minutes 3/15

Meeting Minutes 8/15

Aim to put together first iteration of yo-yo the middle of the week after spring break
- this means try to have molds machined before spring break, and injection mold ~5 parts during or immediately after spring break
- we should try to see how we have to adjust the molds in order to make our yo-yo run before the final process optimization, which is due in the 4/18 deliverable.  This requires a 6 batch run of 6-10 parts each
- there will be more meeting times during this week in order to get process optimization nailed down
- look at Gantt chart!

**WEDNESDAY MORNING IS AVAILABLE FOR US TO MACHINE DURING LAB**

Updates on Machining and First optimization Run
Jess & Kaitlyn - mold made, thermoforming next week
Helena - making mold on friday, aiming to injection mold friday or monday of spring break
Sarah & Isabella - talking to David 9-10 am monday morning to discuss final design considerations, trying to machine on monday, hopefully making parts during wednesday lab
Colette & Kristyn - need to consult kristyn about time

Need to order shims & rivets in order to put yo-yo together.
- Kaitlyn- order rivets (linked here)
- Helena - order shims → the only dimensional change we will need to order shims will probably be the ID of the body
-thermoform window cut to 2.25” on outside (will use 2.29” punch and die set then)
- shim stock remains same as one sent to team
- body - getting rid of step down and making it flat
- add step to inner retainer diameter to hold sandwiched parts in place

Meeting Minutes 3/12

Meeting Minutes 3/12/13

General Notes:
- Need to establish meeting time: Saturday at 5, lasts for 1-2 hours depending on needs
- Don’t need a “team” Gantt chart; just need to update it and put it on blog
- weekly meeting minutes need to be included IN EVERY report
- any changes we make SHOULD be posted on blog
- anything you send out in an email should also be uploaded to blog

Body Team:
- Collette and Kristyn finished all molds
- Changes made to deal with changes in Retainer
- Mastercam files generated, need to make G-code
- Need to generate process plan and justification

Retainer Team:
- Solidworks mold model done
- tolerances for shrinkage included
- ejector pins included
- mastercam generated
- need to figure out how to include drafting in mill
- worried because need to use 1/16th end mill, 2 hour milling time
- try to do machining next week

Window Team:
- need to change window diameter to deal with thickness of retainer (1.5” diameter)
- will be milled and lathed tomorrow from 9-11
- Helena will work around us in retainer

Galaxy Team:
- changed the design of ejector
- add extra arms so we can add ejector pins in (need to be ¼” thick)
- so now have 4 ejector pins to get galaxy out of mold
- Hurricane/Galaxy theme?
- Potential problems with the pin used to make the center hole: will be a pocket for plastic, and pin will go up through center to create hole; will be made with a dowel pin.  Start with the smallest possible size we’d think it would be, and then can create a bigger hole in core to accommodate larger pin if that doesn’t work
- Solidworks drawing made (not mold), and mastercam files generated

Next Steps:
- Next thing due is process optimization; 2 weeks after spring breaks
- should try to make all parts before or during spring break, so we can re-machine and make any necessary changes
- After process optimization, will need to be able to go to our final production round

- will send out google survey to see who is available over spring break, so we can plan accordingly

Here is the updated Gantt chart this week!  See this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqBksXwr1_aKdHJ6ci1EQUt3VXczZzB1eHdJY3VhWUE&usp=drive_web#gid=0

Hey guys!  Keep posting updates on here in regards to your where you are in your deliverables for report 2!  This includes if there were any changes to the part design (and what they were), where you are in the mold design, g-code creation, and process plan.  This will better allow us to keep the Gantt Chart up to date!

Thanks,
Kaitlyn

Weekly Meeting 1 - minutes

Minutes from Group Meeting 1 (Sat 3/1)
Present: Isabella, Helena, Kirstyn, Sarah (minutes taken by Sarah)
Excused absences: Kaitlyn, Jess

Updates:
·         Helena made 5 different design options for the retainer ring – we agreed the more geometric ones look best and preferred the option with both rounded and straight edges, but will let Helena decide based on what she deems most moldable
·         Kirstyn and Colette designed the body part with the part-round, part-hourglass general shape that we agreed on in class with a very basic axle
·         Isabella and Sarah designed the spiral for the galaxy part and will add depth to it later in the afternoon
Actions:
·         Sarah made a Dropbox folder titled 2.008 SPACE CADETS and everyone will upload their SolidWorks parts to it by MIDNIGHT SATURDAY 3/1 for Helena to access
Decisions:
·         Spiral galaxy piece will be composed of a flat disk with a hole in the center, through which a separate capped-pin piece will fit. The galaxy piece will spin around this pin which will be push fit into a hole in the body piece. The pin will have a cap at the top to hold the galaxy piece in place.
·         Spiral galaxy dimensions: 0.14” OD, 0.12” maximum thickness, 0.10” pin diam, 0.20” cap diam, 0.16” galaxy ID
·         Spiral galaxy will be slightly thicker at the OD (0.12”) than at the ID (0.10”) in order to increase the moment of inertia
·         Body thickness – based on previous years’ designs, this can be on the range of 0.10” to 0.20” without much distortion
Delegation:
·         Deliverable I:
1.      Planned division of labor (+ weekly meeting minutes): Sarah
2.      Fully dimensioned component drawings: Kirstyn (Note: check with Helena on dimension changes)
3.      Dimensioned complete assembly: Helena
4.      Explanation of incorporation of design features: Sarah
5.      Blog construction: Kaitlyn
6.      Gantt chart construction: Kaitlyn

·         Component design breakdown:
-          Isabella & Sarah – spinning galaxy + cap
-          Kirstyn & Colette – body with axle
-          Jess – thermoformed window
-          Helena (& Jess?) – retainer with geometric design
Notes:
·         Weekly meeting time will be decided this week by Kaitlyn – everyone please fill out the schedule poll

·         The blog is supposed to keep track of everything involved with the project so remember to add an update for all work/questions/comments/pictures
Hey everyone!  Here is the link to the google document containing our Project Plan for the semester!  Will keep updating as we round out the details of the deliverables!
